TASTING NOTES

Vineka’s iconic Primitivo di Manduria D.O.C., a monovarietal that needs no introduction. Structure, power, a stunning array of fruity notes, and a soft, velvety texture despite medium-high alcohol content.

Deep red garnet, almost purple in the glass. The nose is bursting with rich jammy fruit, berries and cherry. Velvety, warm, deep but well-orchestrated on the palate, with a remarkably long finish.

FOOD PAIRINGS

Serve between 18° and 18° C. Pairs well with grilled, roast or stewed red meat or game, and with a range of local charcuterie and cheeses.

Try it with classic Puglian fennel-seed taralli, to add an extra aroma to an already-complex bouquet.

GRAPE VARIETY AND VINIFICATION

‘Primitivo’ refers to the fact this grape can be harvested early, before the end of the summer, without losing any of its polyphenol maturation or considerable sugar content.

Vineka’s Primitivo ripens in the grape’s area of origin, in Manduria: a historic town midway between Taranto, Lecce and Brindisi.

Our vines are upwards trained (Guyot system), a contemporary, non-invasive method of training and pruning. The grapes are harvested by hand and soft pressed, with temperature-controlled must maceration.
